The launching of the new website of the Jesus and Mary Congregation in Pakistan is a landmark in the history of the Institution in our country. The rapid technological changes taking place in the world today makes it imperative for us to project the work of the Congregation through this medium. It is an exciting way of forging stronger links among all our pupils, present and past, as well as a means of making contact with the worldwide JM family to which we proudly belong. All Jesus and Mary Schools in Pakistan belong to the Congregation of Jesus and Mary, founded in Lyon, France in 1818, by a French woman named St. Claudine Thevenet. It was from France that the first Sisters arrived in Agra in 1842 and from there were made some of the foundations that exist in Pakistan today. At present the Religious of Jesus and Mary administer eleven schools throughout the country, both English and Urdu medium. Wherever we are we try to emulate St. Claudine’s concern for the young, for those who are powerless, with a special preference for women. And so, by means of a holistic education, we guide our pupils to develop loving relationships with God, with self, with others and with the earth. At all levels we work at building a ‘civilization of love’. A marked family spirit in all our JM Schools witnesses to this. St. Claudine insisted that we educate girls from every social background. Our goal remains the same, to form women sensitive to the needs of the world today, with the competent knowledge which gives them power to act decisively in order to make a difference. Value education is a priority in all our schools, where values are taught, experienced and lived out by all and where striving for excellence at the level of one’s potential, is an essential element. Launching a website is like opening a new door! We invite all interested to come in and meet us. We especially invite our past pupils to be in touch and look forward to stimulating exchange in the ‘inter-active discussion forum’. Our gratitude to Mr. Aly Hayat Khan and his wife Amna Zulfiqar (a past pupil), for their combined effort and hard work to get this website functioning in record time. Sr. Marie-Cecile Osborne RJM |
